The best one of our family is the one I've attached,
taken 1943-44 - the only one of the five of us together.

quote:[harrison mckay email]
Attached is a photo Chris Watts took of the violin
from George Frederick McKay, our great grandfather
(although I am unclear about that history).
I scanned it at 600 ppi and so it is about 1 MB in
size.
quote:[harrison mckay email]
I am afraid I don't know a thing about the violin.
Brother Fred told me yesterday that Dad told him
it was a replica of a famous violin, and that
many were made just like it, but he, Fred, thinks
it may be worth investigating further. In any
case, it's Chris's call now whether or not it is
worth the effort to trace the origins. If your
brothers and sisters don't know any more about it
and the three of us don't know either, and Chris
and Char don't know, then I would guess we are out
of luck. It is inspiring, though, to think
about the five children of Fred and Ila listening
to their grandfather play his fiddle tunes to them -
maybe with them dancing around the house to the
music, giddy with delight, making a lot of noise,
teasing each other, their mischievous performing
grandfather grinning while their parents try to
quiet them down. How inspiring and captivating it
must have been for them. Wouldn't it be nice to
have a photo of that!
