Brian Reid's newsgroup alt.gourmand was one of the founding
groups of the alt hierarchy.  It is no longer active.  The last
postings and software revisions are from the late 1980's.


recipes.tar.Z		when uncompressed & untar'd ->
	Programs
	Recipes

recipes.tar.Z, when uncompressed and untar'd, gives the alt.gourmand
set of recipes, ca. 526, in the directory "Recipes", and the shell
scripts and related files to format them, in the directory "Programs".
The latter serve to extract recipes from net news articles and
format them with troff or nroff.  These programs were designed for
BSD or SysV UNIX, a la 1980's.  Changes are needed for running under
macosx, linux, etc.

./Programs/README:
	Brian Reid's README file for the alt.gourmand programs,
	files, and news group.

./Recipes/
	The recipe files are in the troff formatting language and
	for printing require the man macros (tmac.an) and recip macros
	(tmac.recip, the special alt.gourmand macros).
	Five of the recipes (those with 2005 timestamps have
	been edited to remove formatting errors

./Cookbook/
	The PostScript file, Cookbook.ps (2+ Mbytes) has all the
	alt.gourmand recipes.
	The Mac OS X program rcbook.t (a shell script) generates
	Cookbook.ps.
	rcbook.t is derived from the alt.gourmand program of the
	same name (to build rcbook.t, see the higher-level directory,
	recipes/Programs).
	The GNU/UNIX formatter groff and the permuted-index utility
	gptx/ptx are required.
	The file tmac.recip has the special alt.gourmand roff macros.
	The files Last.update, Scr.toc, Update.nroff and Update.ps are
	from a test update run with rcbook.[tn].
